Growing up in Winnipeg, my friends and I would canoe a lot, especially right after winter when the forested areas on the banks of the river would be flooded. It was always really austere but beautiful, which is something I wanted to try to bring to life here.
Inked by hand, colored in Corel Painter and Photoshop.
I love the sense of depth and how you captured the feel of a snowy forest. It looks so believable and forlorn. The woman's dress detailing looks magnificent. The background and the trees really pulls it all together.
Really lovely mood in this, Sanya.
Thanks Kelly! How was Hal-Con?
I truely lament that I wasn't able to buy this as a print when i saw it, I really feel it has such a beautiful mood to it, both dark and light at the same time. Its mysterious and dangerous and yet hopeful, i really just could read into this image for hours if I tried. I really love her sleeves and have to commend you on all that beautiful detail work! Hell the fact that you inked this all by hand just hit me and I cant help but think about all the time you must have spent on those trees! wonderful work, thank you for sharing it <3
Thank you for all the kind words-- it was my very first time printing the artwork, so I wasn't sure how it would be received, especially next to my flashier works. I was very happy it did as well as it did, but sorry I didn't have any prints left! Let me know if we'll cross paths at a future con and I'll certainly set one aside.
Again, thanks for the lovely comment! It makes all the ink under my finger nails worth it, haha!
Gorgeous lines accompanied by a beautiful and subtle color palette.
such a sense of mystery, makes you want to know her story, and why she is wading in the stream? Is she possibly a nymph lost after the flood, looking for its bearings?
What a unique style! I love it!
Wow, amazing job!
This is so lovely.
